Pihtipudas is located at the side of European Main Road E4. Pihtipudas is an ideally beautiful place for travellers, who love nature. Here you can feel the real, quiet peace of the countryside. The numerous lakes and rivers in Pihtipudas are suitable for many kinds of hobbies. Perhaps the best way to get close to the nature of Pihtipudas is to go hiking to  the wilderness route of ”Lapin Sormi”, The Finger of Lapland. It is located about 10 kilometres from the strating point of the wilderness trail. Near the centre and villages you can find beaches and training activities. The most significant events are Keihäskarnevaalit (Javelin Karneval) and other summer events Riihirock, horseraces and others. Acommodation possibilities vary from hotels to cottages and eating opportunities from restaurants to pizzerias. Shopping area of Putaanportti area is located near to the centre of Pihtipudas.

 

Sightseeings 

The history of Pihtipudas you can find from old church and Heinäjoki, the Pudas stone bridge and from the Javelin Museum or the Museum of Pihtipudas. 

In front of the local government office you can find the statue of Lauri Tahko Pihkala, who was born in Pihtipudas. You can also find statue of javelin thrower at the central sport groud.

If you want to feel the beauty of the nature, go to the area of Niemenharju and the sightseeing road. 

 

Imarrekivi at Hartuntakanen is a big rock, what resembles a human face.
